Pavlos Thanopoulos was born in Athens and studied History of Art at the Université de Toulouse Le Mirail, Theatre and Costume design at the Wimbledon School of Art (BA Costume Design) and at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design London (MA Scenography).
He worked at the Costume department of the Royal Opera House London and at the Theatre du Capitole in Toulouse for various productions. He was assistant to Ioanna Papantoniou, Elli Papageorgakopoulou, Eva Manidaki, Marie Noelle Semet, Francesco Zito, Pierre André Weitz and Sophia Kokkosalaki for the costumes of the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Athens Olympic Games 2004.
He designs productions for theatre and opera, and also designs and curates exhibitions for the Benaki Museum in Athens and other museums.

From 2009 he is part of the curating team and responsible of the design for the re-opening of the Nikos Hadjikyriakos –Ghika Gallery, at the Benaki museum.
He taught Costume design at the Vakalo College of Design, Athens from 2009 to 2013.
